World History
2 Semester Course
This is a required class
Instructor: Mr. Voyles
The primary purpose of this sophomore course is to give students an opportunity to learn about the economic, political, and social developments that created the western civilization of which they are a part. The course includes the rise of early civilizations, Ancient Middle East and Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages and the Rise of Nation States, The Renaissance and the Reformation.
World History will be covered by reading aloud, class discussion, lecture presentation, hands on projects and video clips.
Assessment of student knowledge will be done by section quizzes, vocabulary quizzes, and chapter tests (matching, multiple choice, and essay).

- Describe the development of civilizations from nomad to farmer
- Analyze major principles of civilization
- Examine and analyze effects of technological achievements of ancient civilizations
- Describe major details of “The Great Empires”
- Analyze the development and contributions of “ The Magna Carta”
- Compare and contrast reason and faith concerning the detail of medieval civilization
- Compare and contrast major forms of government
- Evaluate the writings of Hobbs, Locke, Rousseau, etc.
- Compare and contrast barter economy and money exchange economy
- Examine and analyze the importance of cultural diffusion
